Post-Doc Communication and Social Change, Brisbane, Australia

Vacancy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Centre for Communication and Social Change, University of Queensland (Brisbane)

The Centre for Communication and Social Change (CfCSC) in the School of Journalism and Communication wishes is looking to appoint an early career researcher to work in an innovative and challenging environment, and help develop new research.

The Centre for Communication and Social Change (CfCSC) is the only centre in Australia that specialises in the study and practice of communication for social change. Communication for social change is an emerging frontier, the goal of which is to use communication processes, techniques and media to facilitate social, economic and technological development. The underpinning philosophy of the CfCSC is that communication is not simply about transferring information and sending messages. Rather, it is about listening, responding to, and helping people give direction to their own change, and supporting environments that enable this change to take place. The CfCSC focuses on four key areas: participatory development communication; information communication technologies for development and social change; media and empowerment; and facilitation of and communication for transdisciplinary research for development.

The CfCSC has been involved in a range of development initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region, receiving funding from various governments, United Nations agencies and non-government organisations; and offers a niche teaching area in Australia, attracting students from across the world and a variety of disciplines.

The successful appointee will have access to start-up ongoing support, and will be encouraged to apply for his/her own research funding. There are opportunities to be part of research teams, to address individually-developed and collaboratively-generated research questions, and to supervise honours, masters and doctoral students.

Applicants should hold postgraduate qualifications at PhD level or equivalent in a field related to Communication for Social Change. You should possess a track record of publishing in high quality international journals or other appropriate refereed publications. Also, any experience in research project proposal development and coordinating the implementation of research projects is an advantage. The CfCSC welcomes domestic and international applicants.

The remuneration package will be in the range $53,780 - $72,949 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range $62,922 - $85,350 p.a.). This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Research Academic level A for three years.
